Onychomycosis aka

Nail Fungus

At Synergy Aesthetic & Laser we offer laser treatments to help aid in the nourishment and growth of nails affected by nail fungus.

Onychomycosis (on-ick-oh-my-CO-sis), a condition that may involve the toenails or fingernails, Specifically, toenails are susceptible to infection because they are exposed to the ideal environment for fungal growth - a humid, dark and warm environment. Nail fungus is an infection that lives underneath the nail, in the skin of the nail bed. If left untreated, the infection could spread to other nails or people. Laser can treat most nail fungus by penetrating and heating up the nail and destroying the fungus embedded in and under the nail plate. It might take up to 9-12months for a healthy nail to grow, therefore it is advised that you start treatment immediately. You should have very little to no side effects from this treatment. Your toes may feel warm during treatment but this will resolve quickly.

Lasers can treat most nail fungus by penetrating and heating up the nail to destroy the fungus embedded in and under the nail plate.

It may take up to 9 to 12 months for a healthy nail to grow, therefore, it is advised that you start treatment immediately and be consistent with treatments.

You should have very little to no side effects from this treatment.

Obtaining healthy nails is a SLOW process.

Finger nails and toenails grow very slowly, especially when unhealthy. You may not notice improvement for some time.

When you do see improvements, it may be subtle. The nail may remain discoloured or not be joined to the nail bed.

This treatment will not change the shape, width, or other deformities of the nail plate.

It is normal to notice slow thinning of thick nails, clear nail growth at the nail bed, and/or reduced discolouration.

Pre Nail Fungus Laser Treatment Recommendations

For best results with laser therapy treatment, it is very important to follow both pre & post instructions,

ALL OF YOUR NAILS/TOENAILS WILL BE TREATED

Remove all traces of nail polish (laser energy cannot pass through nail polish), and any cream, including lotion from your toenails and feet before every treatment.

If you have dark hair on your toes/fingers next to the nail, you should shave it before your treatment.

Avoid using nail polish or artificial nails until the infection is cleared.

Clip your nails as short as is comfortable before every treatment (straight across). Long nails can break and offer fungi easy access to your nail bed.

Do not do a lot of picking under the nail

Thick nails needs to be filed down for better absorption.

Clean and exfoliate your feet and toes before each treatment - this will help to remove fungus living in the dead skin tissue

Bring a pair of clean cotton socks with you for after your appointment - new cotton socks are the best because of their moisture-wicking properties
